Please try again later. Probably my favorite book on the Najdorf. Although some of the theory is dated anybody looking to play the Najdorf should read this book. Daniel does a very good job covering all the pitfalls and strengths of moves with tons of alternate variations.

He also writes with a style that makes you feel like he’s there having a conversation about the game with you. Also the main ideas as developed over time since Miguel Najdorf’s inaugural game using it. It covers the the 6.

Bg5 lines although some good things to avoid are covered. Daniel recently released a chessbase video and pgn combo to update some of the theory in this book. Finally, you will not find another author as enthusiastic about an opening anywhere and you are missing out if you don’t pick up this classic.

Power Play The Sicilian Najdorf – a repertoire for Black

The previous reviews have said it all. I just wanted to confirm them. An absolutely outstanding opening book. The Ruy Lopez book Mastering the Spanish was fantastic as well.

For those who are not familiar with the Sicilian Defence, Najdorf Variation, to my knowledge it is the most popular of all opening variations.

What makes the Najdorf a logical favourite is the fact that after the standard beginning sequence, the b5 square is open for white to place either of his 2 knights or the King’s bishop.

It makes perfect sense for black to move his a pawn forward one square to prevent this from happening. After black plays this move, white then has 5 main options. This book goes into winnong themes of these 5 options along with another 3 secondary options. Thank you Mr Daniel King for your contribution in this field. I think I will be refering back to your book for years to come. One person found this helpful. Excellent product and service.

I won’t go into the detail as other reviewers have since they have already said it once and that wwith be enough ; but this book by Daniel Woth, who has jumped najddorf into my personal top 10 favorite chess authors with this and his Mastering the Spanish, is a great book for the intermediate and above player well perhaps not grandmaster but you know what thee mean David Norwood summed up openings books with this quote: Many opening books are little more than print-offs of ChessBase variations, with the analysis courtesy of Fritz.

Any monkey could write them and I suspect that a lot of the time, they do.

Winning With the Najdorf

This book is your best bet, regardless of skill level. It is singular in its ability to describe the Najdorf. The above Norwood quote is especially true for an opening like the Najdorf, where many think that you’re lost if witg not up to date on the very latest theory.

True for grandmaster play, but almost universally false for anything below IM-level games. Danny King, however, doesn’t get lost in tactics or the countless variations which kin. He simply focuses on the strategy and motifs that are often present in Najdorf games.

For example, the first chapter on 6.

Power Play 18: The Sicilian Najdorf – a repertoire for Black

Be2 has lived on in my mind ever since I was a puny King shows a couple crushes by white and asks the reader “where did black go wrong? He then shows systematically how to avoid getting stuck with a bad bishop against a strong knight, how to counterattack the weak pawn on e4, and how to get It’s all very simple, and through six instructive games with their annotations a reader can learn more than from an entire book cataloguing the 6.

Chapters on the Fischer variation, the Bg5 lines, and the wwinning f4 variation follow similar threads. He always spends at least two pages of text explaining what white wants to do, then breaks down what black has to do to stop this. The instructive games that follow are fantastic, well-annotated, and error-free. The only issue that could be a problem would be the books date; don’t worry, up-to-date theory is not a concern for this opening gasp!

If you know how to set up your pieces and a few easily-learned structures you’re in great shape. Don’t believe that you have to know the 14th move nahdorf in the English attack; it’s not true for untitled players.

There are likely skeptics who think that this is an elementary book because it appeals to many levels; not true. The variations make the book complete, but repeating so many subtle changes wholly obfuscates how to play the opening.

I’d run over all the variations but still wasn’t sure what I’d gotten out of the book. Even for someone who has played the Najdorf for years, coming back to this book always gives me a fresh perspective on the opening and refreshes the little idiosyncracies that this opening encompasses. It would benefit players of all levels, unlike any other Najdorf book I’ve ever read plenty. The rest of the reviews of this book are testaments to the high quality and great explanations this book has.

I like his style of explaining the moves clearly; however, many games suffer from flawed analysis. I have checked a few games with computer in the 6. Bg5 variation in which White daaniel at least equal out of opening, and only lose due to blunders in the endgame. He also tends to award exclamation marks unscrupulously for moves that are not that strong which can be refuted by strong plays. For tournament players, do not take his suggestion on face value; in any case, checking with computers is absolutely essential.
