This story was very weird and a bit hard to follow. The process was truly fantastic and engrossing. Not being vacuous or flippant: Students follow along on word-fo. I appreciate that it is a classic piece of literature, and that we are to identify with the pain of the soldiers and the boy, but to me, it was just a really depressing story that seemed nihilistic and fatalistic at once. He then takes his wooden sword and chickamuaga them.

When your passionate dream now turns into your horror nightmare. I had to write a lengthy analysis, which I will spare you, but I thought this one perfectly illustrated how we chkckamauga only be afraid of what we know and understand, and sometimes we fear simple, harmless things while glorifying truly terrifying events like war simply because we have not seen them for what they chickamaiga are. After I read the end, I reread and it all snapped together for me and I loved it.

When used as whole- class read-along, the kits solve the age-old problem bifrce some students not reading the assignment. I started wondering, though, when the boy got on the back of one man and was flung off. I didn’t like it.

This story summed up the horror of the Civil War. This way, he manages to show the utter horror of war, which is inextricably linked with the baseness and the evil of human nature. Soon after he awakes, he is joined by hundreds of wounded and dying soldiers making their way in macabre fashion through the twilight near where the boy lies.

I hate when you put down a classic and people say, “But you just don’t get it,” or “Maybe it was too difficult for you. It was kind of slow and I didn’t understand it while I was reading that first time.

I did, however, find an interesting piece by Bierce called The Devil’s Dictionarywhich is like a dictionary, but with cynical definitions. The innocence woven into civil war cruelty was well done, and shocking.

Want to Read saving…. Slightly higher rating since I just visited those woods and the effect is powerful. Read for American Lit This was a really good story about coming to understand war.
